Techniques Level 5 Team Remain
Undefeated
With
thirty-seven separate events, the Arnold Sports Festival, held by
Arnold Schwarzenegger, is a monumental occasion. In fact, it’s
the largest fitness/body building expo in the world.
30 gymnasts from
Virginia Techniques Gymnastics in Christiansburg registered to
compete in the gymnastics portion of the Columbus, Ohio event. 2100
gymnasts and 101 teams were present at the 2008 Arnold Gymnastics
Challenge, hosted by Cyclone Gymnastics in Blacklick, Ohio.
The level 5 team, who
has had a great year, had a very strong showing at the March 1st-2nd
event.
One of the most
exciting victories for the gym was the level 5 team’s
fourth straight team triumph. The level 5 team placed first in the
team competition for their level.
Four out of the
five meets they’ve
been to this year have had team competitions, and the team has
placed first in all of them, making them undefeated thus far in
their season.
The level 5 team
pursued excellence individually as all-around gymnasts.
Shelby Roberts,
with a 35.65, placed second all-around in the 9 and under category.
Fellow level 5, Kate Shaffer, placed third all-around with a
35.025 in the 9 and under category. Cassidy Sheppard placed
second all-around with a 35.60 in the age 10 group.
Many girls found their
chance to shine in the individual events.
Jenny Shaffer
won Vault with an 8.85. Brittany Warf gold medaled on floor
with a 9.375. Sarah Wilson tied for first on bars with a 9.1.
Lastly, Shelby Roberts won beam with 9.175 and tied for first
