Virginia Techniques Excel at Carly Patterson Big Dog Meet

Techniques Gymnastics competitive team attended the 2nd
annual Carly Patterson Big Dog meet on December 2nd and 3rd.
The meet was held in Charleston, WV and attracted gymnastics clubs
from eight different states.
Twenty-three gyms participated in the competition with high caliber
gymnasts in levels 4-10. Virginia Techniques level 5 team captured
an impressive 2nd place award out-performing 10 other
teams. The level 4 team brought home the 3rd place award
in the team competition beating 16 other teams. As with the two
other competitions VA Techniques gymnasts competed in this season,
level 4 and 5 gymnasts took the all-around 1st place gold
medal in most age groups. The following level 4 gymnasts won the
gold medal in the all-around: Alexis Edwards (Age 6-7),
Shelby Roberts (Age 8), Cassidy Sheppard (Age 8.5),
Brittany Warf (Age 9), and Savannah Keaney (Ages 12 and
up). The following level 5 gymnasts garnered all-around gold
medals: Kallee Kerestes (Age 7-8) and Christina Martin
(Age 9). Our level 4 and 5 gymnasts continue to prove that they are
among the best gymnasts in the area.
Level 6
– 10 gymnasts also competed for the opportunity to participate in
finals competition on Sunday afternoon. With all age groups
combined, the top 6 gymnasts in each event qualified for finals.
Jade Buford, 8, qualified for level 6 finals on beam. With an
impressive no fall beam routine worth an impressive 9.3, Jade
was able to secure a 1st place finish during the finals
competition. Colleen Shang, 16, qualified for level 10
finals on every event. Her best performance in the final
competition placed her 3rd on balance beam.
Participants met Carly Patterson, the first American gymnast
to win the all-around gold medal at a fully-attended Olympic games.
Patterson awarded team trophies and posed for photographs with each
gymnast as well as signing autographs.
Located in Christiansburg, Virginia Techniques
offers recreational and competitive gymnastics and cheerleading to
