FAQs

Do you have questions about Virginia Techniques? We are always happy to answer any questions you may have! If you do not find the answer to your question here, please feel free to give us a call or send us an email.

  • What is the parent portal?

The parent portal is your online access to your family's VA Techniques account. The parent portal is accessible by clicking "Parent Portal" in the top right corner of vatechniques.com. Through the portal you can access your account ledger, pay your tuition, as well as register for classses, camps, clinics, sleepovers, and other events.

If you have ever been registered for classes at VA Techniques, you already have a parent portal account. Just click on "Forgot Password?" to have a temporary password emailed to you. Please call the front desk if you have any trouble accessing your account through the parent portal.

  • What should my child wear to class?

Girls can wear leotards or t-shirt and shorts or pants. Boys can wear t-shirts and shorts or pants. Loose, baggy, and long clothing should be avoided - this may interfere with a coach safely spotting your child. Participants will be asked to remove socks and shoes before going out on the gym floor. Children with long hair should pull it back in a ponytail or pig tails. Dangling earrings and all other jewelry should be removed. No gum chewing on the gym floor.

  • Do you offer any family discounts?

Yes! The first child in each family pays full tuition. All other members of the immediate family receive a 20% tuition discount.

Family discounts are not available for home school classes and tumbling groups because these classes are already significantly reduced.

  • Do I need to stay at the gym during my child’s class?

If your child is able to supervise herself/himself, you may leave the gym during class as long as we have a current cell phone number on file. VA Techniques is not equipped to supervise children before or after class so please stay with your children in the lobby until their coach calls them out on the floor for class. Please be prompt and available to retrieve your child immediately after class as well.

  • Do you prorate class tuition?

No, unfortunately we are unable to prorate class tuition. Our tuition calendar is based on a 4-week month. We do not charge more for months with more than 4 weeks and do not charge less for shorter months. We do offer one make-class each month for students that miss class for any reason. We also offer several holiday make-ups from November through January for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

New students enrolling in class for the first time in the middle of the month will enjoy a prorated tuition.

  • Why is there an annual membership fee?

The $39 family membership fee helps offset adminstrative, office, insurance and other non-teaching costs. This fee covers all members of your immediate family. The membership fee is due upon initial registration and annually afterwards. Membership fees are good for the entire calendar year and cannot be prorated for any circumstance.

VA Techniques members are also invited to "members only" events throughout the year and enjoy savings on open gyms and clinics.

  • Do you offer make-up classes?

Yes. Each student can make-up one missed class each month. Make-ups must be scheduled in advance and are subject to class availability. A student may schedule a make-up in any class that s/he is eligible. For example, a leaping lizard could schedule a make-up in another leaping lizard class or in a tumbling and trampoline junior class.

  • Do you offer a gym recital?

Yes. Each spring, our students have the opportunity to participate in a gym show. Participants will demonstrate skills learned throughout the year and perform a special, class-specific routine. Each participant will receive a show t-shirt and participation trophy. Parents, grandparents, and other family members are encouraged to attend. Participation in the gym show costs $20.

  • Do you follow MCPS inclement weather closings?

No. We remain open much more often than Montgomery County Public Schools. In the rare event we need to close due to inclement weather or other unusual circumstances, we will notify you by sending an email blast and publishing the closing on our website. Whenever possible we will make decisions about morning classes two hours before the class scheduled to start. Decisions on evening classes will be made by 3pm.

  • Do you have a PRO Shop?

Yes. Our PRO Shop features leotards, shorts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and many other accessories including athletic tape and grips. We offer special sales and discounts throughout the year. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter for current information about our current specials.
